• Hello and welcome to 6th/7th Social Studies!

My name is Mr. Curran and I am the 6th and 7th grade social studies teacher here at Lincoln Avenue School. Below is a quick overview of the 6th and 7th grade curriculum. For the 2024/25 school year, both 6th and 7th grade students will be learning the same content.

    6th/7th Grade- US I

Students will explore the development of the United States from a collection of North American British colonies in the eighteenth century to Reconstruction following the American Civil War. Students will develop evidence-based writing skills, analysis skills, and map skills among other social studies skills. There will be a strong emphasis on evidence-based writing in this course. Students will have the opportunity to engage in historical analysis and will be working with historical sources that are hundreds of years old.

This curriculum also requires that the first marking period of the school year be dedicated to civics education. Students will learn about the political foundations of the U.S. as well as political theories on government and how our federal government is structured and why.

Homework is given when students need to complete work not done in class or to introduce students to a new concept that will be discussed in the next class.

The two websites being used in this class are Savvas, which can be accessed via Clever and DBQ Online, which students are able to log into using their Google accounts for Orange Public Schools.
