Course Description
This Algebra II course begins with connections back to students’ earlier work, efficiently reviewing algebraic and statistical concepts that students have already studied while at the same time moving students forward into new content. In previous years, students have investigated mathematical ideas introduced in Algebra I by extending techniques to solve equations, and students’ knowledge and library of functions by functions. There is an increased emphasis in Algebra II on modeling, operations with various expressions, algebraic properties, methods of solving equations, and systems of equations.
Throughout this Algebra II course, students should continue to develop proficiency with the Common Core’s eight Standards for Mathematical Practice:
- Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them
- Reason abstractly and quantitatively
- Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others
- Model with mathematics
- Use appropriate tools strategically
- Attend to precision
- Look for and make use of structure
- Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning
These practices should become the natural way in which students come to understand and do mathematics. While, depending on the content to be understood or on the problem to be solved, any practice might be seen or applied, some practices may prove more useful than others.
In order to help students succeed in each unit, there are some transition lessons will be provided in the curriculum unit plan at the beginning of quadratics. These lessons will provide opportunities for students to revisit or reinforce their prior knowledge needed for the unit. Each lesson starts with a Task. The purpose of the task is to introduce a new concept, or problem solving, reviewing pre-req.

Textbook and Supplies
- Textbook : District made materials
- Website: Google Class room, ALEKS
- Pencils and erasers
- Notebook and folder
Classroom Rules
- Be prepared; Bring all needed items to class
This includes all required supplies (pencil, folder, homework)
- Be respectful; “Treat your teachers, classmates and yourself with respect”
Do not argue about grades or classroom policies.
- Be productive; Teachers will give you our very best and we expect the same in return
Pay attention during lessons and do your best with positive thinking and attitude.
- Be safe; fighting, rudeness, disrespect and childish behavior will not be tolerated.
- ***All personal electronic devices are not allowed(cell phones, earbuds, headphones, iPads, iPod, airpods, etc.) Keep your cell phone off and put away. If you get caught when you are using cellphone, it will be confiscated immediately, and you will get it back after class.
Charging station: You can charge your phone during class at the charging station only.
No warning! No argument! No exception!
- Sign in/out policy: If you are signing out from the classroom with any reason (restroom, nurse room, or main office calls) YOU SHOULD HAVE A PASS and FILL OUT SIGN IN/OUT FORM.
- Students will adhere to all OHS rules and policies.
Grading Policy:
Grades will be based on quiz/test performance, homework, class work, class participation and authentic assessments according to school policy:
- Tests: 25% (minimum of 2 per marking period)
- Authentic Assessment: 25% (minimum of 2 per marking period)
- Quizzes: 20% (minimum of 4 per marking period)
- Class Work: 20% (minimum of 8 per marking period)
- Homework: 10% (minimum of 8 per marking period)
Homework:
Homework will be assigned at the end of every classand will be due at the beginning of the next class. Homework is the best way for you to practice and remember concepts covered in class. Copying homework or completing it at the last minute “for the grade” will not help you to practice, learn, or improve.
Homework will be assigned on Google classroom and you will submit homework on Google classroom.
Highest grade for late homework will be 80%. No later than 1 week.
ALEKS:
You have to work on ALEKS at least 3 hours and at least 8 topics every week.
Class Work(Hands on, ALEKS, Independent work, Exit ticket, etc)
Whether it is individual work or group work, you are expected to actively work on these assignments. Your grade will reflect not only 1) the accuracy of your answers on a daily exit ticket, but also 2) the effort you put in during class. Even a perfect exit ticket will receive a “D” or “F” if I notice you are not using class time effectively or copying answers from neighbor. For more information on the school’s classwork grading policy, check your student handbooks.
Due at the end of each class. No late classwork will be accepted.
Authentic Assessments
There will be at least 2 authentic assessments every marking period.
- Performance task or Senior Portfolio (District)
- Project or Rich Task
Quizzes/Tests
Students will be given 20min quiz every Friday. There will be a test at the end of every unit. These tests will cover the concepts you’ve learned in class. To be successful, you should complete all assigned homework, participate in class, as well as review these topics prior to the exams. All quizzes and tests will be announced at least one class period before. Also, I will post Quiz and Test dates on Google Classroom. So, please check google classroom if you are not able to attend class. Even though you are absent when a quiz or test is announced, you will still be responsible for taking the quiz/test. Any quizzes that students miss must be made up or it will count as a zero. Please take my advice: the longer you wait to make quizzes and tests up, the less you remember the material. Please do not wait to make up missing quizzes/tests.
Make-up Policy
Students who are absent are responsible for the work and instruction missed. If you were absent on a due date, all work is due the day you return; deadline for assignments given on the day you were absent will be discussed. Students must be present on the day of a major test.
Requirements to Receive Credit
I will be following the OHS student handbook regarding attendance, absences, and behavior. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions about attendance or lateness.
